The Antipodes Healthy Lipsticks are my first experience of anything from Antipodes. When a lipstick is described as being ‘so healthy you could almost eat it’, you get a little intrigued.
The story as to how the Antipodes Healthy Lipsticks came about is actually a little bit gross. They were inspired by natural health supplements, which isn’t the gross bit. It’s estimated that during her lifetime, a woman will ingest up to 7 pounds of lipstick (not good news if you bought one of Jaclyn’s). The lipstick may be swallowed or absorbed through the skin, which is pretty scary as most of us have no idea what goes into lipstick. Antipodes decided to create a formula that is safe and healthy if consumed.
The lipsticks contain ingredients that come from natural origins, with the exception of a small amount of FDA approved colour pigments that have been included to add some vibrancy. As well as being healthy, the lipsticks are also moisture-boosting thanks to nutrient-rich pure plant oils. So not only will your lips look great, they’ll also be conditioned too.
So what’s included in this amazing healthy formula?
Avocado Oil – packed with essential vitamins, fats and minerals. Helps to increase the production of collagen and keeps lips dewy and fresh.
Calendula Oil – originating from the Marigold flower, this healing oil has anti-inflammatory properties.
Evening Primrose Oil – an edible oil that is rich in healthy fats.
Argan Oil – a Moroccan nut oil that balances oil production and hydrates the lips for a soft and moist finish.
As well as these plant oils, the formula contains antibacterial beeswax, shea butter and jojoba oil to add moisture and vitamin E for extra lip nourishment. Whilst these lipsticks are certified vegetarian, they’re not vegan thanks to the addition of the beeswax. However, the beeswax is a sustainable ingredient that apparently comes from ‘lovingly-kept bees’.
The boxes that the lipsticks come in are made from 100% biodegradable cardboard that comes from sustainable forests, so Antipodes are ticking that environmental box.
As well as the lipsticks, there’s also a gorgeous Kiwi Seed Oil Lip Conditioner.
The lip conditioner has been designed to keep the lips healthy and hydrated, to enable perfect lipstick application. As well as the Kiwi Seed oil, there’s also avocado oil, vitamin C and Omega 3. It prevents water loss and increases the surface lipids to keep the lips soft and plumped. You can use as a primer before applying your lipstick or apply throughout the day whenever your lips need some added moisture.
I really like the formula of these lipsticks.
They’re definitely hydrating and really comfortable to wear. I did find that they did need reapplying several times throughout the day and they did transfer quite easily. This wasn’t a huge issue though and I can deal with that when the formula is so nice. The shade range looks gorgeous, and the three shades that I have are really nice. The lipsticks retail for £19.99 each but Feel Unique currently have them on sale at £14.95 each.
