When Benefit Bad Gal Bang launched last year I had absolutely no interest in it. From the ridiculous over the top launch in the Maldives, to every blogger and their dog hyping it up, I quickly decided that I didn’t want to try it.
I can do that at times … I make my mind up on things before trying them and I’m working to not do it as much. However, I had heard from a few friends that it was clumpy, too wet and a bit of a bitch to remove, so I kind of felt justified in my decision.
Then a few weeks ago I found myself buying the mini version … just to see if it was as bad as I’d imagined it to be. There was no way I was going to buy the full size as I was so convinced that I would hate it. Well, I’m a dick, I was wrong and God help me but I need to go buy a full size as soon as this runs out.
I freaking LOVE it!!!!
What Benefit says:
BADgal BANG! 36-HOUR* FULL-BLAST volumising mascara creates MASSIVE volume without weighing down lashes. The gravity-defying formula contains aero-particles, one of the lightest known materials, derived from space technology. This innovative intense pitch-black mascara layers easily for bigger & BIGGER impact. Its custom big Slimpact! brush is streamlined to reach root-to-tip, corner-to-corner, upper & lower lashes for BIG VOLUME WITH 360° REACH!
They also claim that it is smudge-proof, water resistant, gives 36 hour wear (not even going to test that as I’m not a skank and I wash my face), as well as promising, volume, lift and length.
Now if you don’t like the clumpy, baby doll sort of look then you’re not going to be a fan of this.
The first time I put it on I was really unsure, as it does clump, but not in a bad way. Believe me, this messes with my head as I’ve spent years trying to find mascaras that DO NOT CLUMP yet here I am loving one that does clump. What is going on? Who even am I?
You can build it up and add more layers but you need to be fast. Do not let the coats dry too much or you’re going to end up with crunchy lashes that end up looking like you only have 4 very thick eyelashes. I’ve found that speed is the key to getting a good result and nice clumps instead of gross ones.
I cannot believe how long this makes my lashes. In the photos below, I’ve only applied one coat, but when I do build it up my lashes look insane. There is a problem though … I wear glasses. Benefit Bad Gal Bang makes my lashes so long and lifted that they constantly catch on my lenses and the result is my cringing every single time I blink .. and I blink a lot.
However, when I don’t have my specs on, I am obsessed with the results.
I didn’t have high hopes when I saw the wand.
It looked too skinny and flimsy and I couldn’t work out how it would give me the promised volume, but again, I shouldn’t judge too quickly. It grabs every lash from the root to the tip, enabling you to get those little hairs in the corners, as well as being great on the bottom lashes.
After a long day of wearing this, I do find that it does start to flake a little and don’t rub tired eyes with this on as you’ll find your lashes on your hand instead of your eyes. Removing it takes a little bit more effort than with other mascaras but I don’t even care. I love this mascara – it’s all I’ve worn since buying it.
Ok, I still think the launch was over the top and stupid and I’m not the biggest Benefit fan in the world but I am a convert. I have spent a year slating a product for no bloody reason! I’m so mad at myself right now.
