When the lovely folk over at ghd challenge you to create a red carpet hairstyle you don’t say no. You really don’t say no when they say they’ll send you the most gorgeous pair of straighteners you ever did see. I already have the Copper Platinum Styler and prior to them I had the Scarlet pair and I swear by my ghd Air Hairdryer, so I was very excited to see what they were sending me. I was also terrified at the thought of creating a hairstyle – we all know hair is not where my talents lie.
ghd TROPIC SKY PLATINUM STYLER – £155.00
ghd are the only straighteners that I use – I swear by them and the Tropic Sky Platinum Styler is quite possibly the prettiest hair tool I’ve ever seen. I love the bright, vivid design and purples and pinks always make me happy, so when I opened these, I did a little squeal of joy.
It is an award-winning styler and it has been designed to leave you with healthy, shiny and strong hair thanks to the tai-zone technology. There are 6 intelligent heat sensors that work to maintain a steady temperature that is safe for the hair. This temperature is maintained evenly across the plates, and is suitable for all hair types and lengths.
I always find ghd stylers really easy to control, and this is thanks to the unique wishbone hinge that helps to hold the precision milled floating plates in place, so you don’t need to worry about them slipping on your hair. It also comes with a rather fancy heat-resistant bag so you don’t need to scorch your dressing table.
Using heated tools on your hair can be quite damaging to your locks, so ghd also sent me two of their sprays. The Heat Protect Spray provides an invisible barrier against heat damage and is suitable to use on damp or dry hair. It contains a Heat Protection System and can be layered with other styling products.
I am obsessed with having shiny hair so the Final Shine Spray is ideal for me. The spray is lightweight and smells lovely, and it adds shine and gloss to the hair as well as calming flyaways and static hair. It also adds light definition to waves and curls, and leaves you with a salon-style finish.
CREATING SOME CURLS
I knew what I wanted to create – I wanted loose Hollywood style waves, and after one quick sessions with the ghd’s, I did have waves. However, as you can see from the above photo, my technique wasn’t brilliant, and so I turned to YouTube and watched a few tutorials. I then felt a bit more confident in creating some curls, so I took my time and went through the hair again with the styler.
I think I got a little bit carried away as I went from some loose waves to tighter curls as the section of hair I was styling at a time became smaller and smaller. I was scared to put any sort of brush or comb through the curls as my hair hates to hold a curl, so I loosely ran my fingers through the hair to try and tame them.
The resulting style just wasn’t what I had imagined, so I added a gold vintage style clip and swept my hair to one side. OK, so my lack of hair skills has really shown in this post, but I was pleased at how easy it was to create some style to my hair rather than just using my ghd’s to straighten my hair all the time.
You can buy the ghd Tropic Sky Platinum Styler from ghd and other outlets.
